FAQ

Holistic Health

The word 'holistic' means mind and body are treated as one. That is the basis of holistic health. In this paradigm, there is no way to affect the body without affecting the mind and the same is true in reverse. Literally, anytime one aspect of a person is improved, other aspects are also improved. Everything is connected. As I remind my patients, we know how we feel by sensing our body feelings. Joy is not felt in the mind alone. We feel our emotions in our body because we ARE our body. For this reason, when we feel better physically, we feel better mentally, and the other way around. Every treatment is head to toe, not just one thing.

The Nature of Posture

The body is the mind is the body. When a person is practicing good posture anywhere in life, it will feel right. This includes muscles, emotions, thoughts, and feelings. If we remove pain and not the cause, the body will build the pain again. The body is always teaching us about ourselves. After a treatment, the feeling of being in a harmonious state naturally encourages a better posture in all ways. It is a reminder of how it feels to be ourself.

How Can I Use Holistic Healing?

Holistic healing can be used many ways. Relaxation, stress-management, and physical concerns are some reasons. Many people come in for anxiety, digestive issues, knee, lower back, sciatic, migraines, muscle aches and pains at first. Then as you feel the relaxation and peace that comes with every session, you may come for other reasons. The main reason is to improve your quality of life and for a chance to change things for the better. And you can take it as deep as you want to go, using it as part of a spiritual deepening with meditation and yoga, qi gong, and/or tai qi. With regular treatment, you can feel the difference on many levels. It reminds you that you are the one with the power to create your life.

The power of holistic healing is that it does not try to control nature, but works with the natural forces already in play. It is possible to move 1,000 lbs of weight with 2 oz. of effort, if the fulcrum is placed at the right spot. The massive forces of nature are impossible to control and difficult to predict. And the body is a microcosm of nature. There are rivers, mountains, valleys, rain storms, and every season in the body. We say we are in 'the springtime' of our life. And the song, "Cry Me a River" is a great blues standard. Analogies like these are everywhere in our language because they describe our reality. Holistic medicine works because it recognizes this and applies logic to this knowledge.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient healing art which originated over 3,000 years ago and is the oldest continually practiced health system in the world.

Qi (pronounced "chee") flows like a long string throughout the body, and it vibrates, as energy, to keep you in tune. When there is a knot or slackness in this string and qi cannot flow freely, illness results. By influencing the qi at these points, you restore your natural state of health.

This is for you. I support you if you have a specific physical or emotional concern or if you desire general wellness. And when you do it regularly, it is most likely you:

  • Feel more in control of your life
  • Stay well when others get sick
  • Increase vitality and stamina
  • Improve your overall outlook
  • Recover more soundly from injury, surgery, and illness

What Does Acupuncture Do?

Acupuncture can be used in many ways. Relaxation, stress-management, and physical concerns are some of the most common. Because it puts the whole person's qi into energetic balance, acupuncture can be used for a wide variety of reasons. With regular treatment, you can feel the difference on many levels. It can remind you on a visceral level that you are the only one with the power to create your life. Just imagine a giant 'reset' button being pressed.

What is Zero Balancing?

Zero Balancing (ZB) aligns your energy flow with your physical structure at the bone level. It is a powerful and effective way to balance qi without needles.

ZB is at the leading edge of holistic therapies. It uses Western science’s knowledge of body structure. From there, the focus is put on energy flow and wellness. In this way, you get the best of both worlds. A ZB practitioner works with your structure and energy to bring balance between the two. Sessions are gentle and rejuvenating. Emphasis may be on any combination of body, mind, and/or spirit. A session generally takes between 30 and 40 minutes and is performed with you fully clothed, comfortably reclined.
Most people report feeling lighter, more connected, and an enhanced state of awareness after treatment sessions.

What is your speciality?

I specialize in working with cancer survivors and their families. After supporting my mother in her recovery from breast cancer, I have decided to focus on this part of the population. Many of these people struggle with stress and anxiety, as well as symptoms from undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment for cancer. Acupuncture is very effective in providing relief from neuropathy, temperature sensitivity, brain fog, and the other challenges that cancer survivors have. There is a lot of fear involved in dealing with cancer and the western medical process. I have had great success in helping people to reframe their underlying beliefs in order to create a vision of life that is big enough to live in; bigger than their cancer.

I also specialize in Chinese herbs and nutrition. I have found that this makes a huge difference in patient progress for all issues. Better nutrition has helped a number of people vastly improve their health through simple, easy to understand guidelines on the foods that will support them in their path to wellness. I find it amazing how much nutrition affects us in our day to day health. And Chinese herbs are tremendously useful to the healing process. They enhance the body and mind's ability to correct imbalances and to flourish. I am glad to have them in my repertoire.
