Stress & Anxiety Management

Come Home Now: A Song I Wrote

I wrote this song in 2005, while struggling with Lyme disease and the burning pain, brain fog, and exhaustion that went with it. Thanks to integrative medicine, acupuncture and herbs, I was able to overcome this terrible disorder. I hope this inspires you!

Warmly,
Rachel

Dancing with Life’s Changes

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Change is good.” In the world of acupuncture, we are more likely to say change is inevitable. And it usually creates stress, regardless of whether we think it’s good or bad.

We are all always dancing with life’s changes. After all, the only time that the body stops changing oxygen into carbon dioxide is after death. We are continually transforming as long as we are alive. And even after that, the body changes into yet another form.

Whenever we are facing something different, our entire being must adjust. Most of us react by creating stress hormones. These hormones depress the mood, metabolism, digestion, sleep, and general ability to heal. This is called fight-or-flight mode, which creates a state of inflammation. Over a period of time, we become less resilient, more fatigued, and more vulnerable to illness and disease.

Happily, the body produces anti-inflammatory hormones and goes into a state of relaxation during and after treatment. This is how acupuncture can lower inflammation throughout the body. In ‘warm-fuzzy’ mode, we experience a sense of ease, increase energy, and improve our immune system.

It’s for this reason many people come to their treatment feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and/or irritable and leave feeling much more relaxed and in less pain. And this feeling lasts longer with regular treatment. It’s the same as exercise and meditation; the more regularly it’s done, the greater the benefits.

The world today is changing rapidly. Some changes are great and others are not so great. Acupuncture can be extremely helpful in dancing with life’s changes.

Benefits of Acupuncture For Stress

Many people suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, and feelings of fear. This is nothing new as far as the human condition goes. Whether the issue stems from an imbalance in the endocrine system, the nervous system, the organs, or life history, there are many benefits of acupuncture.  By removing blockages to the flow of qi and putting the internal systems into balance and order, a person is put in touch with their natural ability to heal. This is how it has worked for thousands of years, without modern drugs or side effects.

In life, there are many possibilities for change. Change can be very stressful, whether it’s good or bad. Many people fear change because of the unknowing it brings. When we are in the unknowing, we can feel out of control and unsafe, a major cause of fear and dread. However, what appears to be external circumstances is actually not the issue. Rather, it is our internal response to the world which causes our distress.

When our qi (energy) is flowing smoothly, we feel more capable of handling whatever comes our way. Acupuncture helps put everything back in place so we feel more calm, peaceful, and present. In this way, many people are able to lessen or even stop their medications, with their doctor’s cooperation.

Summertime is a great time to step into a feeling of expansiveness. It is warm outside, the sun is up more than it is down, and many people feel more alive now than any other time of the year. It is the perfect time to move forward and step into a clearer, brighter reality for ourselves and the ones we love. The best way to reward our loved ones is to take care of ourselves and radiate joy. Nothing could please them more.
